December Ride...

©2010 L. Habib
I always try to ride at least once in December before it goes to bed for the winter. Today (12/11) was that day and a great day for it. Temp made it to 40. Riding is good for the soul.

Shifta on a...

©2010 Paul Jamiol
If Shifta's bike (from the first Bikers are Animals) resembles a Norton, it may have to do with the fact I loved both of mine neither which sported a hand shift.

New Nortons...

Another pic of the new Nortons...I'm lovin' them!

Norton rules!

I've always been a Norton fan and had two over the years...loved them both. Norton resumed production of the Norton Commando in 2009. They are now ready to bring them to the U.S. again. Check them out at...

Before and after...

©2010 Paul Jamiol
The question I get asked most is how do these drawings start out. Here's a rough of Crag from BaA2 and how he ended up. In the rough, he was pretty aggressive and showing both attitude and teeth. Seeing these guys are for a kids book, I toned him down a little so not to scare the bejeezus out of the younger set.

A rough of those that made the cut for Bikers are Animals 2 (GT Charlie, Gatah (renamed Crag) and Sketch) and those that did not (Jay-Dee, Knuck, Chompster and Galup). While it was really emotional for those who did not make the cut, I did promise them a call back for Bikers are Animals 4 - Workin' and Playin'.

The second...

©2010 Paul Jamiol
The second of two full-color centerfolds I did for the Motorcyclist's Post back in 2009 to introduce some of the BAA characters to the world. Howlena's bike was completely made up around a v-twin engine. Bandit is based on our real-life Bandit (a cool Shiba Inu.) The blue boots on his paws come from the blue boots we put on him on those freezing winter nights when he needs to go out.

Shifta is one of the understated characters in the book but I really like him. His bike looks like a Norton because I had two Nortons and loved them. Mine did not have a side shift or mouse-trap sissy bar.

Zig and Zag are Linda's favorites. Zig's bike has a '59 Caddy taillight because I love '59 Caddy taillights! He went through a lot of bananas to earn that banana patch. Zag's bike is faster. How do I know?...because I drew him and I say so...LOL!

We got the first copies today and they are beautiful! Should have them up on site for ordering right after Labor Day. I think kids will love it and am thrilled to be able to share motorcycling with them!

Bessie Stringfield...

B. Stringfield to Paul Jamiol photo
I got a chance to meet Bessie later in her life and was fortunate to be able call her a true friend. She was person who I admired and respected. My Linda loved her and so did I. Here is a picture of her she had given to me of her on one of her many Harley's. A truely remarkable owe it to yourself to Google Bessie and read about her unique place in the world of motorcycling.

The first of two full-color centerfolds I did for the Motorcyclist's Post back in 2009 to introduce some of the BAA characters to the world. Akorn had yet to get his nut-shell helmet and I cleaned up Trash's tattoo for the book. I used my brother's '86 FLHTC as a model for Slick's dresser. That's the factory color. I put Roag on a V-8 because V-8 motorcycles fascinate me and what better engine for a ridin' rhino than a "Charger".

©2010 Paul Jamiol
Everyone has a mentor or someone who impacts you during your life in a major way. My mentor rode off into the sunset many moons ago. He started me cartooning and still remains a part of my life. Dick Gately aka Father "T" was my mentor but more importantly he was a true friend. Dick G....Thanks and RIP.

From the Motorcyclist's Post...

©2010 Paul Jamiol
I did this 'toon for the Motorcyclist's Post. A pet peeve of mine...cameras that are police, judge and jury and 1/2 the fines go to a private vendor who sets up the cameras, the light interval times and decides questionable violations.

They don't get...

©2010 Paul Jamiol
I took this pic at the 2nd annual Larz Anderson Classic American Motorcycle Day. It's a 113 cubic inch S&S v-twin motor in a 2004 Swift Punisher. This motor has some serious polishing and chrome. They don't get sweeter or cleaner than this.

Scary Rider...

Scary Rider is a new character I've created...a rockin', ridin' ghost that's a bit different from those "friendly" ghosts out there.

Back in the...

Me back in the late seventies... my '67 Norton stuffed in a Matchless frame. I added Norton P11 scrambler tank, new handlebars, headlight holders, highway bar/pegs, no front fender, K&N's, oil cooler and custom seat. On the "fun" 1 to 10 scale...this bike was a solid 12!

Bandit on a custom chopper...

Our dog Bandit bookin' down the road on a cool Fall evening astride his custom chopper. I added a winter background, some lights and a bag of toys and used this one for the Xmas cards we send out. Every year, Bandit is on a different bike for the cards. FTR...the real Bandit is a Shiba Inu.

The first Bikers are Animals...

This was done for a postcard for my Classic Motorcycle Calendar © back in the early 1990's. Bikers are Animals wasn't even a thought back then. I just like the idea of a couple of animals riding on a motorcycle.

The motorcycle was my old '86 Guzzi Lemans with a Dr. John's 2 into 1 exhaust with Supertrapp muffler. The '86 had a 16" front wheel with integrated brakes. I bought it new and rode it for 15 years or until my back gave out from leaning forward. First thing I did was add Corbin seat. Stock seat was like riding on a 2x4. This bike gave me some really kick-butt riding miles.

This is pic of actual Guzzi...

First Review...

Motorcycling cartoonist Paul Jamiol has done it again with “Bikers Are Animals 2,” a sequel to his “Bikers Are Animals” published in July, 2009. Sub-titled “The Rest of the Crew,” Jamiol brings us another dozen endearing creatures who like to ride motorcycles, including Classik, a coyote who loves antique motorcycles, and Craig, an alligator who would rather ride than hang around a hot swamp all day. As with the first “Animals,” there is a coloring section with all the characters in line art. Jamiol's basic message is one of inclusiveness, joy, and the absence of prejudice. Every motorcyclist with small children or grandkids should gift them this book. It is fun and character-building in an entertaining way that children can enjoy. To read our review of Jamiol's first “Animals” book, go to Motohistory News & Views 7/10/2009.
Thanks Ed!

A close up of the XX Cycles bike...sweeet!

Bad Ass...

© 2010 Paul Jamiol
Built by Eddie Gillies and Don Cardinal of XX Cycles, MA. These guys are true craftsman and think outside the box. This bike started out with '68 Sportster cases and ended up with what you see here. It features XR1000 heads, machined cylinders, 5-speed H-D tranny, custom made frame, dual carbs, oil in frame and the list goes on. It's reminiscent of the early Vincent Rapides aka the "Plumbers Nightmare". Eddie says there is a Phil Vincent influence in his subconscious. Eddie and Don's only building guidelines chrome, no extended front ends and no hard tails. They build some really nice bikes.
